On May 13, 2007, the Swiss conductor Konstantin Keiser performed Marx's "Morgengesang" (Morning Chant)
for male choir and orchestra with the chorus Basler Liedertafel and the Hradec Kralove Philharmonic Orchestra (Czech Republic) in the Large Music Hall of the Casino-Gesellschaft in Basel, Switzerland.
The programm also included rare choral-orchestral works by R. Strauss, Max Reger, Jean Sibelius and Leos Janácek.
This concert was repeated on June 29, 2007 in Hradec Kralove (same performers).

On April 2, 2006, the RSO Vienna conducted by Bertrand de Billy
and the famous Austrian mezzo-soprano Marjana Lipovsek performed Marx's song symphony "Verklärtes Jahr"
(Transfigured Year) in the Großer Musikvereinssaal, Vienna.

On October 24 and 25, 2005, the orchestra recreation - Großes Orchester Graz
performed the HERBSTSYMPHONIE (first performance of this work since almost 80 years!) under the baton of the conductor Michel Swierczewski
in the Stefaniensaal in Graz, Austria.
The author of this website attended these performances and presents a
detailed report on this musical event.

On April 19, 2004, the Graz Symphony Orchestra and their conductor
Israel Yinon performed the Idyll (Part 2 of the "Nature Trilogy") in Graz, Austria.

The American pianist David Lively and the Bochum Symphony Orchestra
conducted by Steven Sloane performed the Romantic Piano Concerto on January 8, 2004
and the second piano concerto Castelli Romani on January 9, 2004 in the Schauspielhaus Bochum,
Germany.

In January 2004, David Lively also recorded both Marx concertos for one of the next discs of the
ASV series of Marx's complete orchestral music.

On September 18 and 19, 2003, the Bochum Symphony Orchestra
conducted by Steven Sloane performed all orchestral songs with Angela Maria Blasi (soprano; September 18) and
Stella Doufexis (mezzo-soprano; September 19) at the Schauspielhaus Bochum, Germany.
Also, on September 29, 2003, the Bochum SO re-performed the orchestral songs for
mezzo-soprano with Stella Doufexis in Gütersloh, Germany.

On June 6 and 7, 2002 the Bochumer Symphoniker conducted by
Steven Sloane performed the "Natur-Trilogie (Nature Trilogy) for large orchestra" in the Schauspielhaus
Bochum, Germany (also see the section above:
Recording Projects). This large-scale and complex work had never been performed in its
uncut original version and as a whole. That's why the performance of the work in Bochum was a world
premiere in every respect.

On July 25, 1999, Katharine Goeldner (mezzo-soprano) and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France conducted by Marek Janowski (who has already conducted a German performance
of Marx's Romantic Piano Concerto with pianist Jorge Bolet in the 1980s) performed the
gorgeous orchestral version of the vocal work Verklärtes Jahr in the course of the "Festival de
Radio France Montpellier".

On May 11th and 18th, 2007, the Austrian music society ÖGZM promoted a concert on the occasion
of the 125th birthday anniversary of Joseph Marx, presenting the complete organ music by Joseph Marx (as a world premiere for the most part), his songs for high voice and organ
an - on Max 18th - also his "Festliche Fanfarenmusik" for brass orchestra and percussion (Location: Rektoratskirche St. Peter, Petersplatz. Vienna.
The performers were graduates of the Viennese organ professor Rudolf Scholz and Barbara Payha, soprano, and Werner Hackl as conductor).

On March 9th, 2007, at the "Schubertiade" in Austria, the soprano Juliane Banse and the pianist Wolfram Rieger
performed three songs by Marx and songs by Schumann, Wolf, Fauré, Schubert and R. Strauss (Location: Markus-Sittikus-Saal, Hohenems, Austria).

On February 4th 2007, the Sierra Chamber Society
performed the String Quartet No. 1 by Joseph Marx (coupled with chamber music by Brahms and Schubert)
(Location: Grace Presbyterian Church, 2100 Tice Valley Blvd, Walnut Creek, California, USA).

On November 23rd, 2006, Petra Labitzke (soprano) and Giulia Glennon (piano) performed
11 songs by Marx including a World Premiere Performance of "Berghymne", coupled with songs by Richard Strauss and Stefan Esser (location: Christuskirche church in Leverkusen, Germany). This was the FIRST concert promoted by the Joseph Marx Society.

On September 14th, 2006, Yuko Takemichi (soprano) and Phillip Moll (piano) will perform 5 Marx songs
and vocal works by Mozart, Gaubert, Caplet, Maruyama, Gnatalli, Villa-Lobos and Bolcom (with the flutist Marcelo Parizzi) in Belo Horizonte, Brazil (Conservatório UFMH, Av. Alfonso Pena, 1534, Centro). Beginning of the program: 6.45 pm

On August 2nd, 2006, Marjana Lipovsek (mezzo-soprano) and Anthony Spiri (piano) performed
7 songs by Marx, coupled with songs by Mozart, Brahms and Marjan Lipovsek (location: Kitzbühel).

On May 2006, the Amerikcan chamber music formation Sierra Chamber Society performed the String Quartet Nr. 1 "Quartetto chromatico" in the Grace Presbyterian Church, Walnut Creek (USA)
NOTE: Marx's three string quartets including their string orchestra arrangments are published by Doblinger in Vienna while all other Marx works are available at Universal Edition, Vienna.

On April 24, 2006, Sarah Leonard (soprano) and pianist Jonathan Powell
gave a gorgeous recital of seven songs by Marx coupled with songs by Sibelius, Rachmaninov and Faure at the Holywell Music Room in Oxford, England (7.30 pm).

On March 5, 2006, Marjana Lipovsek (mezzo-soprano) and pianist Anthony Spiri
performed seven songs by Marx and a couple of songs by other composers (location: Großer Saal in the Festspielhaus St. Pölten).

On March 3, 2006, Measha Brueggergosman (soprano) and pianist Roger Vignoles

On January 19, 2006, soprano Juliane Banse and pianist Jan Philip Schulze
performed four Marx songs in the Stefaniensaal in Graz, Austria.

On November 22, 2005, the soprano Emma Bell and the pianist
Andrew West performed four Marx songs and a couple of songs by Berg, Walter and Strauss in
The Venue, Quarry Hill, Leeds, UK.

On September 17, 2005, Helena Dearing (soprano), Herbert Kefer (viola),
Alexander Gebert (cello) and Claus-Christian Schuster (piano) performed two Marx songs that are accompanied
by small chamber ensemble ("Durch Einsamkeiten" and "Adagio"; location: Kunsthaus in Mürzzuschlag, Austria).

On June 5, 2005, the soprano Anita Vozsech
and the pianist Maria Bachmann performed three Marx songs in the "Spiegelsaal der Neuen Galerie Graz"
at "Landesmuseum Joanneum".

On April 27 and 29, 2005, Marjana Lipovsek (mezzo-soprano) and
Anthony Spiri (piano) performed songs by Marx, Schreker and Tchaikovsky in the Brahms Hall, Vienna (Spring Festival).

On April 17, 2005, Joachim Hammer performed Marx's piano piece
"Albumblatt" coupled with pieces by Haydn, Liszt and Bach in a recital given in the Protestant Church
St. Matthäus in Aschaffenburg-Schweinheim, Germany.

On December 11, 2004, Kazumi Kohno (soprano) and Jürgen Glauss
(piano) performed 13 songs by Joseph Marx and 11 songs by Wilhelm Kienzl in the Kunsthaus Seelscheid,
53819 Neunkirchen-Seelscheid, Bergstr. 14-16. This program will also be released on a studio-recorded CD (Label: Mitra)
in December 2004. The booklet of this CD (the part about Marx) was written by the author of this website.

On November 23, 2004, the soprano Measha Brueggergosman and
the pianist J. J. Penna performed four songs by Joseph Marx and a couple of songs by Maurice Ravel,
Xavier Montsalvatge, Benjamin Britten, Aaron Copland and William Bolcom in the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre, Ann Arbor.

On September 4, 2004, the British composer and pianist
Jonathan Powell performed two unpublished solo piano pieces of Joseph Marx (of which the scores
were provided to him by the author of this website) and two of the published piano pieces in Sulham House, Tidmarsh, Pangbourne (England), at 6:00 pm.

On August 25, 2004, the British composer and pianist
Jonathan Powell premiered several unpublished solo piano pieces of Joseph Marx (of which the scores
were provided to him by the author of this website) at the famous piano music festival "Raritäten der Klaviermusik im Schloss vor Husum".

On July 20, 2004, the soprano Petra-Maria Schnitzer,
her partner Peter Seiffert (tenor) and the pianist Peter Tornek performed songs by Marx, Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann,
Richard Strauss and Claude Debussy at the Munich Opera Festival 2004.

On June 28, 29 & 30, 2004, the American soprano Constance Haumann
performed songs by Marx and other Austrian romantics at the Austrian Cultural Center in New York City.
She was accompanied by the pianist William Vendice from the LA Opera.

On February 13, 2004, the British pianist and composer
Jonathan Powell and the renowned soprano Sarah Leonard performed 10 songs by
Joseph Marx at the St Cyprian's Church in London NW1.
On February 20, 2004, Jonathan Powell performed solo piano pieces of Marx at the
same location.

On November 24, 2003 (7.00 pm), the French pianist Denis Pascal
performed, amongst others, some of Marx's piano pieces at the "Theatre du renard" in Paris (Theatre du renard 12, Rue du
Renard, 75004 Paris).

On November 5, 2003, America's leading baritone Thomas Hampson
performed songs by Joseph Marx in a concert titled "Hugo Wolf und andere Komponisten aus der Steiermark"
(Hugo Wolf and other Styrian composers). Location: Stephaniensaal in Graz, Austria (powered by Musikverein
für Steiermark).
Please read what Mr. Hampson said in an interview on his official website:
"Marx was a composer from Graz who has been largely forgotten, though he wrote more than a hundred lieder, most of which are wonderful, and they must absolutely be rediscovered and returned to the repertoire."

On August 1, 2003, Thomas Hampson (baritone) and pianist Wolfram Rieger performed songs
by Marx, Hugo Wolf, Zemlinsky, Webern, Richard Strauss, Alma Mahler and Schönberg in the Kleines Festspielhaus in Salzburg, Austria.

On October 30, 2003, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary
of the Republic of Turkey, Inci Häusler-Altinok performed piano pieces by Joseph Marx and
the Turkish composer Necil Kazim Akses, and Elena Copons (soprano) and Eva Mark-Mühlher (piano)
performed songs by Marx (in the Diplomatische Akademie, Vienna). For more information and

The British chamber music formation Romantic Chamber Group, London,
included Marx's not yet recorded chamber works (Frühlingssonate (Spring Sonata) for
violin & piano, Trio-Phantasie and the three piano quartets) to their concert repertoire.
On October 8, 2003 (at 7.30 pm), Paul Barritt (violin),
Louise Williams (viola), Charles Medlam (cello) and James Lisney (piano), who are
members of the Romantic Chamber Group, performed the "Rhapsody for
piano quartet" at the Hindhead Music Centre, Hindhead, Surrey/England.

Trio ŕ clavier de la Monnaie (including the pianist Daniel Blumenthal)
performed the Trio-Phantasie in Brussels (Belgian National Opera).

On February 7, 2003, Paul Barritt (violin) und
James Lisney (piano), members of the Romantic Chamber Group, London, performed
the Spring Sonata (Sonata No. 2) for violin und piano at Purcell Room, South Bank, London.

On August 15, 2002, Renée Fleming (soprano) and Jean-Yves Thibaudet (piano)
performed 4 songs by Marx and songs by Fauré, Liszt, Alban Berg and R. Strauss at the Salzburg Festival (location: Kleines Festspielhaus).

On May 17, 2002 there was a concert in the Barocksaal des Alten Rathauses
in Vienna on the occasion of Marx's 120th anniversary, reviving unknown chamber works,
songs with chamber ensemble, songs and a piano piece (mostly world premiere performances!).

On April 28, 2002, Cornelius Hauptmann (bass) und
Sabine Schubert-Kessler (piano) performed a Marx song ("Bitte") and further songs by
Schumann, Kilpinen, Silcher, Schoeck and Schubert in the Städtische Aula in Calw.

On January 25, 2001, Ildikó Raimondi and the Artis Quartet
performed six Lieder for voice and string quartet in a version for soprano at the concert
hall of the Wiener Musikverein.

On May 24, 2000, three of the "Four songs after Anton Wildgans"
("Du bist der Garten", "Durch Einsamkeiten", "Pan trauert um Syrinx") were performed in the Schubert-Saal in Vienna.
The concert was organized by the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts.
